OUT NOW
Rating: 5/5
If there is just one album that you check out this week then make sure that it is The Deserters from Rachel Zeffira as she releases her debut solo record.
Zeffira is perhaps best known as part of Cat’s Eyes but now she has struck out on her on and produced an album that is as stunning as it is bewitching.
The Deserters is the opening track on the album and the soaring strings and her delicate vocals give the song an incredibly atmospheric feel from start to finish.
And while Here On In does have more of a pop beat it still has a very gothic grandeur and feel to it - this record is really unlike anything that has been released so far this year.
Letters From Tokyo is another treat as the piano gives the track a haunting feel while Zeffira vocals have a dreamy element to them.
There isn't a single weak track on this album as Zeffira delivers track after track of beautiful and moving music.
Not only does Zeffira show that she has a stunning singing voice but she also demonstrates her fantastic writing ability as these songs are incredibly rich and packed with emotion.
Rachel Zeffira is an artist to keep an eye on into 2013 and if she continues to write and record music to as high a standard as this then she is in for a very good year.
