Held By Horses have been making a name for themselves over the last twelve months on the live scene and this week sees them return with their new EP In History - which has seen them really develop their sound.
And believe me when I say that this is not the EP to be missed as Held By Horses seem to have matured vocally, musically and from a song-writing perspective.
The female-fronted five piece draw you in from the opening chords of the first track You Win Some, You Lose Some as they mix mighty guitars with a sweeping vocal.
Harriet Reynolds is more than able to hold her own against the pulsating guitars and she mixes delicate vocal moments with showing us that power that her voice really possesses.
Little Water once again shows off that great melodies and riffs that this band are able to create while Reynolds shows off the lower end of her vocal range - and it really is mesmerising.
The Last Word is a particular highlight as Held By Horses team up with Renz Byrne as he delivers a roaring vocal.
Byrne and Reynolds compliment each other beautifully and their vocal interchanges work incredibly well - the end of the track when it becomes a duet is definitely the most powerful.
Virtues is another knockout track and that bring the EP to a triumphant close as the colossal hooks are supported by a super catchy chorus.
It is not hard to see why there is a lot of excitement surrounding Held By Horses as this is a fantastic record from start to finish.
The band has put together a collection of tracks that are energetic and powerful that show off Reynolds vocals beautifully - I just wish there were more than five tracks to enjoy!
