Last time we heard from Cloud Atlas they were performing under a different name but now the teenage four piece are back with their new self-entitled EP.
This collection of four tracks has a real a acoustic/pop sound to it and this is a band that we should be keeping an eye on into the new year.
Snow is the opening track on the EP and it is one of the best songs on the record and it is perhaps the most pop sounding track.
The instrumentation on Snow is fantastic as there guitars mix with some fantastic strings and towards the end of the song an almost dance beat kicks in to the song that extra little bit of something.
The mix of Jess Hall and Alex Stone’s vocals works really well and there is a real polished sound to this track.
Satellites doesn’t have as eclectic a sound as Snow and it opens with Hall’s vocals being accompanied by a simple and yet beautiful piano.
We really get to hear just how great her voice is as she delivers a very emotional performance - the lack of production on the vocal is also fantastic. There is a haunting sound to Satellites and it really is a very beautiful track.
The Maker is another acoustic track as Hall and Stone’s voices come together so beautifully - you can really hear that there is a harmonic understanding between the pair.
But the best track in this collection is the final song Shockwaves - a song that builds and builds until it crescendos into an emotionally rich track.
The piano and the strings are delicate and yet powerful and are the perfect accompaniment to the stunning and flawless vocals.
Colour The Atlas are a band that are well and truly on the up and this EP hints that they could well have a very exciting future.
This is an EP that shows off the vocals, musicality and son-writing skills of this band and it really is top draw - am really looking forward to a full album.
