John and Edward Grimes have come a long way since that rather disastrous and somewhat off-key rendition of As Long As You Love Me by the Backstreet Boys in their first X Factor audition, and after watching their first music video, I’m happy to say I’m a fan.
Now I know as a music journalist I’ll probably get ripped to shreds for backing two boys who, well let’s be honest, are no Mark Feehily and Shane Filan. But I love them, I actually do love them, they make me smile at how the music industry is so uptight these days that they can’t even give two boys a chance.
Luckily for Jedward (and their new celebrity best mate Vanilla Ice) they seem to be completely oblivious to what’s happening in the media, and are just happy ‘being famous’ and acting around in front of the camera.
Okay, so we know there isn’t much of them singing on this track, and they’ve probably been auto-tuned to death, but who cares? It’s a bit of fun, it worked for Mr Blobby and Bob The Builder, and these two are a damn sight better, so leave them alone okay?
Yes, I do actually have a crush on them, especially in the lat frame of this video, but have a watch and then tell me you don’t love them just a teeny bit.
