Like the evil twin of The White Stripes or the disobedient child of The Stooges, Turbowolf are building an electronic noise temple atop the crumbling pillars of rock music. Pounding drums and thrashing guitars teamed with synth wizrdry and larynx-shredding vocals make this band impossible to ignore.
New single Read And Write is a frightening rampage through the darkest moments of rock music history, collecting fistfuls of hellish disco fireballs along the way. In fact, the most exciting thing about the band's efforts is the heavy focus on innovation. Injecting fun and energy into their work, the quirky bunch of five have a loud and brash sound that will surely appeal to a patchwork crowd of rockers, indie kids, electro nerds and ugly stinking weirdos alike.
Though the song does pack one hell of a punch, the lack of contrast between blatantly thumping verses and even burlier choruses might leave some listeners feeling more like the victim of an aural assault than receiving nuggets of pleasure. It's crammed full of potential, but in terms of music to enjoy again and again, this one slightly misses the mark.
