Steve Angello & Laidback Luke feat. Robin S
Recently voted #46 in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list, you could say that The Netherlands' Laidback Luke is the 46th best man for the job when it comes to creating a runaway club hit. This simply wasn't the case in 2008 however. It's hard to say where those other forty-five mixmasters were, but one thing's for sure, it was Laidback Luke's remake of 1990s hit Show Me Love that really set the dancefloors on fire.
This time round, with freshly recorded vocals from Robin S herself and co-produced by Steve Angello, the track's surely set to be bigger than ever, and it no doubt will be. That doesn't mean to say it's particularly any better though. Sure, the beat's been tampered with and the new vocals have freshened things up a tad. Apart from very minor cosmetic improvements though, this sounds very much like the same tune we've been hearing for years.
Admittedly, when a song features one of the most instantly recognisable riffs of them all, no amount of remixing will change anything fundamental about its composition. You could say "what's the point then?" - good question; The answer probably lies in the millions of record sales this will undoubtedly clock up as it wings its way across global clubland. It was an alright tune that just hung around and hung around - it's still here and whether your summer will be any more memorable because of it is anyone's guess.
