When I was 16, Staindâs album Break The Cycle was never out of my CD player; I loved them more than I loved chicken nuggets and chips; but since that album became old and newer ones took their place⦠I havenât really ventured back into the world of Aaron Lewis and friends.
Until now that is. Their new single, The Way I Am, is taken from their new album The Illusion of Progress - which I am hoping finds its way into my CD player very soon! (hint hint mum / friends / boys wanting to date meâ¦)
The single itself doesnât disappoint either, itâs typically Staind we know and love, they vocals are still as mind-blowing as ever, and the accompanying video, filmed in a sepia hue atop a building is every inch as hard rock as they used to be.
I have to admit, itâs been Nickelback who have taken Staindâs place in my musical library, as I constantly dream of being able to sing like Chad Kroger (if I was a man obviously!) but Aaron Lewis blows him right out of the water. But, note to Chad⦠I still love you too; thereâs enough room for both of you in my ears! I have two after all!
Even after five years, I still love this band as much as I did when Iâd have them on whilst fumbling with boys on the local park⦠their grinding sound and incredibly sexy sound that lead guitarist Mike Mushok and drummer Jon Wysocki manage to deliver is just breath-taking.
Itâs been a long time since Iâve heard a single and been desperate to check out the full album.. One thingâs for sure, Iâm going to have to stock up on these guysâ back catalogue and get myself tickets for their tour which is currently tearing up stages across the UK.
If you havenât heard of Staind yet, then get your finger out guys, because these are one of the most incredible rock bands I have hear din a long-long time⦠and their longevity just goes to show how much you need them in your life.
Rating: 5/5 - it makes me go weak at the knees.
