Okay, so when I heard a band I’d never heard of was taking on this Depeche Mode classic, I was obviously a little dubious, and unfortunately for the trio in Red Blooded Women… their ’red blood’ just doesn’t do this song justice.
To be honest, it could just be the three of them singing along to the original track on karaoke and then adding a few synthesisers; I mean, if you’re going to cover a track - and a track of this magnitude - there’s no point just re-creating the original, you have to make it your own. (Unless you’re on X Factor obviously)
Don’t get me wrong, the girls do have a good crack at it, considering there are an epic SEVEN versions of the same song on the single, each with a slightly difference dancey / drum and bass backbeat, buy let’s face it… you can’t reinvent the wheel… so don’t try to recreate Depeche Mode.
Rating:1/5 - They can have a point for their nice voices.
