Oh, Atoms

Oh, Atoms

From the first second I head these guys, I thought the Ting Tings had smoked loads of weed and gone all folk-pop on me, but then I did what any self-respecting music journalist would do and googled them.

Normal life was once again restored when I found out that no, The Ting Ting’s had not finally decided to stop releasing such annoying music, but another band (cue Oh, Atoms) had decided to adopt TTT’s amazing vocal sound, and so something decent with the musical accompaniment.

Oh I don’t mean to be nasty, but let’s face it, it’s the truth. Never mind eh, all is saved thanks to Gwen Cheeseman and Marc Withecomb, who quite remarkably play five instruments each… not that’s not your regular manufactured music is it?!

So I might not really get the whole ‘lets talk sing in our broadest accent ever’ attitude to music-making that seems to be dominate the chats at the moment, nor do I see why all the music sounds like the soundtrack to getting high with your mates (especially since cannabis became a Class B drug yesterday!)

Nevertheless though, I do quite like these guys and I’m willing to give their album a chance when it comes out too; they have all the ingredients to be a massive success; I just hope that can make the most of that!
