When I heard the title of the Official Secrets Act’s new single, I have to say that I was a little dubious as to what lies beneath the interesting cd sleeve, would it be a ‘save the animals’ rant or something to encourage us all to grab our guns and rally the dogs?
Surprisingly, I found neither, instead I was treated to a delightful little pop track that sounds like a were blend of the Eurythmics’ Sweet Dreams (are made of this) and the soundtrack to the film, Midnight Express.
In a sudden change of course to their usual happy-go-lucky brand of electro-indie-pop goodness, the boys thought it was time to show their darker, more brooding side following Alex’s cycling accident a couple of months ago, and although bicycles aren’t exactly what come to mind here, we can run with it.
So fair enough, it’s not going to be a ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’ or a ‘That’s Not My Name’ sized hot for the latest alt kids on the block, but for what it is, it’s quite a pleasant listen, and something my mum would definitely be down with.
