Laura Izibor

Don’t Stay is set to be the second single to be released from Laura Izibor’s debut album, Let The truth Be Told; and to be honest, it’s a cracking tune.

The album as a whole is pretty good really, and it’s nice to hear a woman with a really strong, passionate voice being back in the charts after we’ve spent the past couple of year’s listening to rubbish just because the girls behind the voices are thin and pretty.

Although I think the Observer Music Monthly were being just a little bit ambitious when they branded the single as; ‘one of the most impassioned soul performances you will hear all year,’ I mean, it’s good yes, but it’s no Bohemian Rhapsody.

The problem I have with woman in Laura’s genre of music; take Joss Stone, Sandi Katie Melua or KT Tunstall is that, they all sound completely the same… I mean if I’d heard this song without knowing who sang it, there’s no doubting that I’d just think it was another singer / songwriter.

I mean, my grandma would love this CD, and it would make a great track to listen to on those sunny evenings as you laugh and play around with your friends around a campfire (are you getting the mental image now) but sadly, no-one lives like this, and to make it in the music biz today, you have to be able to stand out from your competition… and sorry Laura, but Joss Stone was here first.

Let The Truth Be Told though (see what I did though) this girl's voice is pristine, and I'd kill to be able to sing like this, but I just feel that it's going to be hard for her competing with existing heavyweights.

Rating: 2/5 - Good song, but nothing special.
