Now, so many of my friends have told me just how amazing this woman is, but as per usual, I didn’t check her out right away, and now that her music has finally landed on my doorstep I wonder how I ever coped without Imogen Heap in my life.
It’s quite rare for me to listen to a song once and immediately want her full album, usually I wait to hear a couple of songs and then ponder whether or not the album will be the usual mix of some killer, but mainly filler. But there was no middle ground here, I was an instant fan.
Taken from her much anticipated new solo album Ellipse, which is released on August 24, First Train Home sounds rather like The Donnas’ I Love You Always Forever - which luckily for Imogene - is one of my favourite songs of all time!
Proving that sometimes a simple and honest sound can be far more effective than thrashing guitars and overbearing drums, this track is somehow tranquil whilst still being incredible empowering. And I love it.
