Day One of V Festival at Weston Park was off to a great start with old time rockers Squeeze getting the crowd going before legend of cool Lenny Kravitz had everyone singing along.

The 4 Music stage was also getting warmed up with The Courtneeners and One Republic both putting in bouncing performances.

The crowds were still in the festival spirit as Reverend and the Makers took to the stage with a well received 70s punk style political rant mid-afternoon.

However the clouds soon set in as geared-up revellers were made to wait over 20 minutes before a bedraggled looking Miss Winehouse finally headed on stage to a chorus of boos.

By the time Amy had starined and crawled her way through barely recongnisible versions of her best hits the weather and indeed the mood had well and truly turned.

The Verve came as a brief ray of light through the clouds as they closed the first day with a spiritually uplifting set full of urban hymns and indie anthems accompnaied by a plethora of string instruments.
