Sonisphere has well and truly arrived! This weekend, Sonisphere kicked off this summer’s European tour in Nijmegen, Holland, where Metallica, Korn and Slipknot blew away the tens of thousands of rampant Dutch metal-heads.
Sadly Mastodon were M.I.A. somewhere over the other side of Europe so couldn’t make it to the festival. They were ably replaced by Pendulum who opened the beginning of Europe’s most exciting new festivals in the glorious sunshine.
At the end of one of his trademark solos, Korn bassist Fieldy Arvizu was clearly heard to shout out: “Perfect, just perfect!”. This seemed to sum up the day’s activities with all of the bands on the bill working the crowd up into an overwhelming frenzy.
Wannabe rock gods got the chance to take to the main stage and belt out headliners Metallica’s Enter Sandman thanks to their Guitar Hero skills. This unique opportunity to rock out on the same stage as Metallica is going to be open to all wanna-be rock gods at all Sonisphere Festivals through out the summer.
So one down, five equally exciting shows to go with Germany next on the agenda. Anthrax, The Prodigy and local favourites Die Toten Hosen will be on board for that one. Metallica, Machine Head, Down and Lamb Of God will be back again and this time with Mastodon - Roll on the Hockenheimring on 4th July!
In other news, Fear Factory have sadly had to pull out of all of their summer gigs, including Sonisphere’S UK date at Knebworth. In a statement from Burton C. Bell and Dino Cazares, they apologise saying that they are postponing they dates to concentrate on finalizing and the writing and recording of their new album.
