Considering the gig last night was only a hour and 15 minutes long and there was only one band on, I didn’t really expect Manchester Academy 3 to be overly busy, but oh dear, how wrong I in fact was…

Walking into the gig,. The air was filled with teenage sweat and hormones - possibly due to the mumblings that Elliot Minor were also partying on down in the crowd, but whatever the reason, I had already begun to look like a sweaty monster before Andrew McMahon even swanned his way onto the stage.

Playing a great mix of old and new tracks, as well as a track from his other band, Something Corporate, the fellows grooved about the postage stamp sized stage like they were taking part in some sweat-ridden wet t-shirt competition; much to the audience’s delight.

Looking incredibly hot, and slightly like the actor Silas Weir Mitchell, Andrew McMahon didn’t disappoint the hoards of fans who had turned up to catch a glimpse of their idol on the last date of his tour before he jetted off to Paris for a romantic break with his wife.

Although I wasn’t really ‘up’ on many of the songs, just looking around the room you could really appreciate how much this guy means to his fans; with each and every lyric being belted back to the stage with much gusto and hand flicking. I think that’s what these indie kids are doing these days…

Despite spending the entire show watching a couple in front of me snogging each others faces off and wondering why the bloody hell it’s so boiling inside the Academy these days, I was completely blown away by the stage presence given off by McMahon, despite the fact he is stuck behind a piano for the whole shebang.
