OUT NOW
Rating: 5/5
2012 has already been a great year for Jake Bugg as he has been whipping up a storm with his single releases as well as supported Stone Roses and Noel Gallagher on tour.
And he is back with his self-entitled album that looks sure to end Bugg's 2012 with a bang.
Believe me when I tell you that this album is an absolute corker and Bugg is the type of artist that only come around every now and again.
Lightning Bolt is the opening track on the album and it mixes a country sound with a fantastic rock element - the guitars on this are fantastic.
It is hard to believe that Bugg is just eighteen years old as he can really tell a story through his song-writing.
Two Fingers is a perfect example as this is a song about a rebellious teen and this looks set to be a great live track.
He brings down the pace in the second half of the album with the likes of Country Song and Broken as they are just stripped back tracks.
There is an incredibly haunting feel to Broken as Bugg's voice is supported by a beautiful acoustic guitar.
Bugg has an incredibly unique sound to his voice and the deep end of his vocal is rich and almost hypnotic.
There is a real sparseness to Bugg's debut record in terms of production as his voice and his song-writing have taken centre stage.
Bugg has admitted himself that he is influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan and his music would not have been out of place being released alongside Dylan material of the eighties.
Jake Bugg is an exciting talent and this record is a little gem and one of the best albums that I have heard so far this year.
