A Dark Orbit is Basick Records' first signing from across the pond, and their first EP, A Dark Orbit is a half hour barrage of metal that refuses to give your ears a break.
Despite only being around for 11 months, it's pretty impressive that these guys have such a tight sound, that many metal bands find impossible to create after years together.
Fair enough, they might be the latest cohort to join the nu-metal, guitar bashing, drum pounding section in your local HMV, but if you've got rage issues, then these boys are your perfect partner.
Okay, so I'm not really the biggest fan of the hardcore metal offerings, simply because i can't sing along, and i find myself wanting to give the poor vocalist Chad Kapper some hot tea and buttercup syrup for his throat. But these guys are bloody good at what they do; any idiot can see that, regardless of their taste in music.
The EP kicks off with Grey Film and Chad makes no effort to break you in gently as he and pals get right in your face with lung breaking screams and a growl that sounds like your face is being scraped down a rough tarmac road whilst your feet are tied to a high speed sports car.
The build up as we enter the final two minutes is just altogether too sexy and Iâm already a convert to these boys despite being clad in a polka dot dress and pink heels; oh well.
And it's not just Chad who knocks my polka spots off, but dual guitarists Keith Riley and George McLintock thunder their way through the EP at breakneck speed, whilst Geoff Sprock gets his moneys worth out of his drums.
The rest of the EP continues to treat you to everything you'd expect from a good debut metal offering. The only question is, whether their full-length offering is just the foreplay to a full blown, orgasmic first album.
