As We Climb

As We Climb

Out 6 June

In a scene known for gimmicks, fashions and trends, their press release reads, Cambridge's As We Climb decided to let their songs do the talking.

That, apparently, doesn’t mean they haven’t joined the cohort and adapted just about every gimmick in the pop-punk book.

As We Climb are England’s answer to All Time Low, but if that gets your blood pumping, ask yourself if we really need another imitation of a scene that is already done to death stateside and with the bar set pretty high by British equivalent You Me At Six, it’ll be a hard nut to crack if these Cambridge punks plan to achieve any kind of recognition.

As We Climb’s biggest downfall is exactly what should be the making of any great band, their frontman.

Ben Scarr seems to have attempted to imitate above all else, sounding distinctly American, he is a by-product of a tired scene which has stolen any identity he may have otherwise had.

Despite their problems, anyone who still enjoys pop-punk will enjoy their bouncy sing-a-long songs, polished tracks, shiny guitar riffs and perfectly groomed hair but unless they up their game for their first album, cynics should steer well clear.

Verdict 2/5
