When I first heard the name, Trip, I thought this album was going to be the usual bout of chavvy dance music or ghetto rap, so I was quite impressed when I heard that it was in fact, like listening to a slightly less needle tracked version of Goldie Lookin Chain.
Okay, I’m being a bit harsh now, it’s not bad at all in fact, personally I’m not a huge fan of these ‘rapper’ types that talk along with the music in that ‘can’t be arsed’ type of voice, so at first listen, I really thought it was never going to end up being something I’d play over and over again.
But shock horror, as the album progressed, I found myself being drawn into Trips weird world of electro beats as I learnt all about the trial’s ad tribulations of life; all spat out onto a silver platter.
To be honest, the lyrics - although sometimes fail to actually make any sense - are actually pretty awesome, and tell a story about life, girls, sun and the good times… with my massive sunglasses on my desk, I think Trip could really find himself at home on my CD player as I chill in the garden with my Pimm’s and lemonade. Okay, more like Strongbow with ice.
Each song does a great job of telling a story, and has a different beat and rhythm to push it forwards, mixing fast-paced melodies with grinding beats that you really won’t be able to resist this summer.
Rating: 3/5 - Good summertime listening.
