One of my colleagues at FemaleFirst has been going on and on about how amazing this Metro Station are for weeks now, so I thought it was a bout time I checked them out for myself too see what all the fuss is about, and God, I seriously understand it all.
Managing to blag their album before the release is always a bonus of being a music journalist, and for those of you poised and ready to run to MHV on march 30, you won’t be disappointed one bit!
From the start of the epic opening track, Seventeen Forever, I’m an instant fan; I mean this belter of summer pop, sunshine fun is the most delicious thing I’ve heard since, well, Fall Out boy Last Thursday.
The album is littered with track after track of ear blasting joy from the current single Shake It, the synth-overdrive in Now That We’re Done to the frisky choruses of Tell Me What To Do which will have you reaching for the hairbrush / microphone in no time at all.
Although I am well-known for hating music that sounds like it strolled right out of a Mario game I really, really love Kelsey which, bizarrely is filled with the Game Boy sounds from start to finish. But once you get over the fact that you’re not a little French pizza maker you can really appreciate this indie-rock love song that puts lead singer Trace Cyrus’ pop princess sister to shame.
Closing track, Disco comes around far too quickly and by the time it’s finished I find myself pressing the play button again and doing it over and over until it’s time to nip off to the kettle for a well earned brew - gotta keep those vocal chords moist after all!
Who needs Disney eh?
Rating:5/5 -The ‘must have’ album this summer.
