After being told over and over again to listen to these guys, I finally put them into my iTunes and wondered what this Vince Noir look-a-like and friends would have to offer me⦠surely not some awesome rock music? I mean how many mega fit frontmen can actually sing. *Ahem* Well, it would seem that Ash Simmons is one of the lucky few.
The album is a delicious twist of funky rock and roll mixed with sexy drum beats to have your feet dancing around in your little pink aromatherapy slippers in no time⦠they were a Christmas present okay!?
Opener The Sickness carefully lowers you into their pit of bubbling rock and rhyming goodness before Iâll Guess really grabs your ears and basically tells you âyouâre not going anywhere until Iâm finished with you mate.â I love it already.
The rock and roll swagger of tracks like, Victim and Self Medication as well as the super hip shaking sounds of title track Broken prove that the guys are not only addictive, but versatile which to you an me, means whatever mood you're in; these vipers will worm their way into your life.
This Is The Way has to be my favourite track on the album; itâs punk-sounding vocals make me a little bit too happy on this rainy Friday morning and I offer to make everyone coffee⦠why, oh why does music make me into a kind person?
That said, Another Suicide might not have the most uplifting lyrics in the world, but somehow the guys manage to carry of this dark song with another wonderfully uplifting beat; wow, Iâm beginning to get a total addiction to these little funky towns lads.
All I Ever is another song that really stands out for me on this record, as someone who isnât usually into punk or ska type songs⦠you know, they type where they sing really fast in a London accent. I have to admit that in this instance, my ears are really enjoying themselves.
Its interesting to note that their single, Check This is the last song on the album, whether thatâs so people donât skip to that every time they listen to the album is irrelevant because one this is certain; this record is all killer and no filler! Woo!
The five lads from Dunstable, take you back to the good old days where an album would have you swanning around your bedroom with your hair backcombed to the point where you look like a crazed Russell Brand, grabbing your nearest hairbrush, dress up in the most unfashionable outfit you can find, and just let rip. Not that I do that. Obviously!
There's no shame in admitting that Iâm looking forward to summer when i can whack this album in my car stereo and drive around our quiet little estate with it at full-volume before heading down the M56 with no real destination in mind - except your house of course.
Rating: 5/5 - One of those CDâs that will instantly make them your new favourite band.
Skip To: This Is The Way. Because I love it.
