Wow! If all I could write for the review of this album was those three letters, that would be it. But Daughtry... crikey, they are amazing.
I know I rant on about bands I love quite a lot, but I’d never heard of Daughtry until we did a takeover with Vagabond, and I gave them the album to review (I hadn’t heard it at this point) and they ejected it out of the CD player right away… but those 30 seconds of Leave This Town already had me hooked.
That evening I couldn’t wait to check the album out for myself, so I put it on in the car on the way from work, and by the time I got back home, my Facebook status read; “Daughtry are one of the best band’s I’ve heard this year.” and it’s true.
Hailing from North Carolina, the band was formed by American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry back in 2006, and I wish, I wish, I wish I had heard of them before now, and if you still haven’t had the joy of listening to them, I insist you do it right away!
Their debut, self-titled album was released in 2006 and reached number one for two non-consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200, even outselling Idol winner Taylor Hicks' debut album.
The album itself is made up of 13 beautiful American rock songs, from the slow and almost ballad-like tracks, Tennessee Line and September, To the more up tempo sounds of Supernatural and the epic choruses on Learnt My Lesson, Life After You and my personal favourite Open Up Your Eyes.
I wish I could go through each song and tell you just how brilliant they are in their own way, but I fear that Daughtry’s ego would swell to the point where they weighed too much to be allowed to fly over to the UK for a string of gigs, so I’d better not risk it!
All I can say is, if you love a good feel good rock song, there are 13 of them on this album, and if you agree with me, feel free to repay me by sending me a copy of their first album, or any of the band members.
