I think it’s fair to say that Daniel Merriweather has become one of our favourite singer/songwriters this year, and his album, Love And War, which is out today, doesn’t disappoint one tiny little bit.
It’s about time too, as Daniel first dipped his toe in the musical waters back in 2007 when he sang alongside his celeb best mate Mark Ronson on the hit single, Stop Me before deciding it was about time her trekking into the studio all by himself and knock out an album.
Love And War is everything you’d expect from good ole Merriweather, a catchy, summery easy listening slice of acoustic-guitar pop, which will make you feel great if you’re daydreaming about that hot man, or even if you’re just sipping smoothies with your girlfriends… I mean, this is a summer soundtrack if ever I heard one.
Featuring his hit singles, Change and Red as well as a sackload of other tunes that I’m certain you’re going to be listening to as you try to work out what shapes the clouds are making, the only problem with this album is when Adele makes an appearance in And A Flame and threatens to upstage the Aussie star on his own record!
I have t say though, my favourites has to be Cigarettes, I don’t really know why, nor can I guarantee that you’ll love it just as much as I, in fact, I fully imagine that you won’t find one person who has the same favourite on this record, because each song has it’s own very little sprinkle of stardust - and I’m loving it!
