Beyonce - I Am...Sasha Fierce

Beyonce - I Am...Sasha Fierce

With an title like ‘I am Sasha Fierce’ you’d be forgiven for expecting an album full of strong, up beat songs so it was a bit surprising to hear CD 1 of Beyonce’s new album, full of slower, ballads.

The album starts with current single, If I Were A Boy. Although it has topped the charts it is not the strongest song on the album and it makes me reminisce for the days of booty shaking Crazy In Love.

One song that does strike a chord though is Halo. It’s a bit faster than the other songs and comes with great lyrics and a strong beat. Definitely the best song on the album.

Beyonce also tries her hand at classic song Ave Maria and manages to turn it from an opera song to a beautiful love song. It’s a brave move but it really works.

Things get better on CD2 and this disk really lives up to the title with some fierce pop songs.

Beyonce is back to her best with Radio, it’s a very Pussycat Dolls style song with fast, dance along beats but with the added bonus of Beyonce’s great voice.

Hello is another stand out song, with beautiful lyrics which work perfectly with Beyonce’s soulful voice.

The album’s worst song comes courtesy of Video Phone. While the tune reminds me of 2003’s Naughty Girl the chorus is repetitive and the whole song is nothing special and beneath Beyonce’s great talent.

Good work Beyonce but more up beat songs next time please!
