It’s all getting a little too much in the life of Hip-Hop’s prodigal son right now as Drake takes a tumble on stage on Friday night, Nas defends his behaviour as both a father and a husband, Detroit mourns another MC, Game battles it out with family member and has 50 Cent released Young Buck from his contract?
Drake Needs Surgery
Having only announced last week that he was withdrawing from the America’s Most Wanted Tour, Toronto rapper Drake made an impromptu appearance on Friday night in Camden, NJ that might have him confined to bed rest for a number of weeks.
Joining his mentor, Lil Wayne on stage to perform The Best I Ever Had, Drake slipped and furthered the damage to his ACL. The rapper was carried from the stage leaving Weezy to perform on his own.
Making his way up to Toronto to undergo surgery, the Young Money rapper is remaining positive about the surgery he now faces. On his blog he wrote “I embarked on this tour with a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL and due to the events that happened the other night lord only knows what other damage I have done.
“On the bright side I will begin the reflecting and soul searching that its going to take to make this album and my outfit on the night I fell was crack. I will forever push myself beyond the limits despite advice and recommendations given because even with this new found success I am still the kid who wanted this more than anything in the world.”
Nas Defends Himself
After the birth of his first son Knight little over a week ago, Nas passed comments about his marriage to R&B singer Kelis to a Canadian newspaper.
Accused of being unfaithful and abusive, Nas clearly contradicts the comments Kelis made on her Twitter page about what kind of husband the Queensbridge rapper actually was. "I heard that I was a cheater," he told Canada's Georgia Straight newspaper.
"It almost sounds like I was a bad husband. Not to say I was the greatest -- I'm not perfect in anything I do -- but I think I deserve a f***ing trophy. If I do say so myself, without sounding too cocky, I gotta say I was a hell of a husband and a hell of a dad."
Kelis was recently awarded by a court over $44,000 in spousal and child support from the rapper.
Slum Village Mourns Loss of founding member
Detroit collective Slum Village along with many Hip-Hop fans across the world are mourning the death of Baatin, a founding member of the group along with T3 and the late J Dilla.
The news of Baatin’s death made headlines on Hip-Hop sites and social networking sites on Saturday. Baatin left Slum Village in 2004 due to illness and it is unclear yet if the same illness was in any way related to his death.
Only this year, he had reunited with T3, Elzhi and Illa G, the younger brother of J Dilla to commence work on a new Slum Village album which was looking at a September release.
Game Sued by Family Member
After a brawl broke out at a family member’s funeral last July, Game is being sued by his cousin according to a case filed in an LA court last week. Robert ‘Kirky’ Kirkwood, the brother of the deceased, is suing the rapper for ‘severe and permanent’ injuries he procured during the fight which broke at the service.
The reasons for the altercation are allegedly down to Game failing to compensate Kirkwood for costs towards the funeral which he is supposed to have volunteered to pay for. Game is also being sued for medical expenses, loss of income and general damages.
Young Buck Released from Contract?
Rumors are circulating that former G Unit member Young Buck who was ousted from the 50 Cent led collective early last year may have been granted immunity from the record label. A radio station in North Carolina made the announcement live on air over the weekend. Nothing has however been confirmed by either party.
