Simmons Is Throwing A Party For Turkeys

Hip-Hop Mogul Russell Simmons is convinced his guests at a special Thanksgiving party will gobble down all the food on offer - he's hosting a benefit brunch for a turkey welfare charity.

The vegan music tycoon is holding a fundraiser for Farm Sanctuary's Celebration For the Turkeys, which rescues the birds from certain death over the Thanksgiving holidays later this month (Nov09).

Guests "will enjoy an intimate, family-style vegan Thanksgiving brunch" with a "cruelty-free menu."

The event is set to be held on 22 November (09) and will feature a silent auction to raise donations for the Adopt-A-Turkey Project.

Calle 13 Reign Supreme At Latin Grammy Awards

Hip-hop duo Calle 13 dominated the 10th annual Latin Grammy Awards on Thursday (05Nov09), winning every category in which they were nominated.

The Puerto Rican pair went home with their hands full after their album Los De Atras Vienen Conmigo scooped their second consecutive Best Urban Music Album and an Album of the Year honour, which lead singer Rene Perez dedicated to late Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa.

Sosa, who died in October (09), was honoured with the best Folk Album prize for her disc Cantora 1.

Calle 13 also triumphed in the Record of the Year, Best Alternative Song, and Best Short Form Music Video categories at the ceremony, held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

The rapping stepbrothers weren't content to just accept prizes for their mantelpiece - they thrilled fans after taking to the stage with salsa star Ruben Blades to perform their hit La Perla, as Cirque du Soleil dancers leaped in the background.

Other highlights included a performance from Alicia Keys, who teamed up with Alejandro Sanz to sing their duet Looking for Paradise, as well as an appearance from Enrique Iglesias, who presented the 2009 Person of the Year Award to Juan Gabriel.

DMX 'Pulls Out' Of Martial Arts Fight

Rapper DMX's new career as a martial arts fighter has already floundered - he's pulled out of his upcoming bout with actor Eric Martinez, according to U.S. reports.

The bad boy hip-hop star, who served jail time for drugs possession, animal cruelty and theft earlier this year (09), was set to step into the ring with Martinez in a celebrity Alabama Pride MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) event in December (09).

But despite bragging he would use street fighting experience from his youth rather than train for the fight, AllHipHop.com reports the star has decided to back down.

According to the site, DMX cancelled the match over fears for his safety.
