As we kick off another week, D12 take to the stage for the first time since losing their front man, more legal trouble for Birdman and Lil Wayne, Beanie Sigel takes aim at Jay Z and fashion mogul Marc Ecko sells off part of company.
D12 Take to the Stage
Detroit collective D12 finally performed some new material this past weekend after being out of the headlines since the sudden demise of their front man Proof in 2006.
Proof who was shot outside a Detroit nightclub was a huge part of the Detroit Hip-Hop scene and was responsible for encouraging his long time friend, fellow Detroit rapper, Eminem, to pick up a mic.
The collective were performing at the VooDoo festival in New Orleans where Eminem was headlining. After performing with Em, the guys performed new material from their impending release.
More Legal Woes
Life at the top is obviously very hard when you are Lil Wayne and his ‘daddy’ Birdman aka Baby Williams.
The duo are once again being sued by a person who contributed to their 2006 album Like Father Like Son. Thomas Marasciullo filed a suit against the Cash Money label after discovering that tracks he had written and produced featured on the album along with some spoken word he had also performed for possible inclusion to future Cash Money projects.
Marasciullo has yet to be compensated for any of the work he did which ended up on projects from the New Orleans label.
Beanie Goes at Jay Z
It looks like Philadelphia and New York are facing off in more than the World Series this year as we see Philadelphia’s very own Broad Street Bully aka Beanie Sigel take aim at former label mate and friend, New York’s head honcho, Jay Z.
Late last week beanie Sigel released a track ‘What you Talking About’ which condemns the Brooklyn born and raised Jay Z for failing to give the artists who were signed to Roc-a-fella the right push.
Beanie Sigel was signed to the legendary label founded by Jay Z and former business partners Dame Dash and Kareem ‘Biggs’ Burke at the height of the labels success. Speaking on the diss, Jay Z commented that Beanie Sigel achieved a lot without going platinum such as his own label and clothing line.
Marc Ecko links with Iconix
The company known for buying Roc-a-Wear from Jay Z I snow coming on board to rescue Marc Ecko and his clothing line.
The company have bought a 51% stake in Ecko’s company and have opted to leave Ecko in the role of Chief Creative Officer. The deal will see Ecko recoup over $60 million in cash for his share and also financing of $90 million for his joint venture with Iconix.
Over the years Ecko has lived a rather flamboyant lifestyle, his most outlandish purchase to date being the ball hit by Barry Bonds when he hit his record-breaking 756th homerun. Ecko purchased this piece of Baseball history for a staggering $752,000.
