Luther Campbell has spoken out to dismiss accusations he's a "deadbeat dad" - insisting his comments were "taken out of context" when he allegedly referred to his children as "sperm donation kids".
The rapper-turned-record label boss hit headlines last month for ranting about his teenage daughter Lecretia after she criticised her father's parenting skills online. Campbell, who has five children with several different women, reportedly told Texas radio station KBXX 97.9 The Box, "It's important to not have sex without condoms because you'll be sperm donating and when you sperm donate to angry mothers then unfortunately it's about a cheque. When you get a cheque, the results of that cheque ends up (sic) where your sperm donation kids are online."
But the former 2 Live Crew rapper is adamant his remarks were misconstrued. In an open letter obtained by Allhiphop.com, he writes, "I feel that I have to clarify an interview that was taken out of context and edited to stir up controversy involving my family issues...
"I am in no way a deadbeat dad and have never been... I love my children very much... For these people at the (radio station) to edit my comments and release them in such a way that makes me appear to be some angry black man who has no love for his children, was way out of line and in bad taste. I hope that they've achieved what they set out to do, at the expense of my private family life, all for some ratings and controversy. Under no circumstances can anyone judge or question my love for children."
