Pregnant R&B singer Kelis has failed in her bid to have a court hearing regarding her divorce from rapper Nas brought forward.
The Milkshake hitmaker filed for legal separation from Nas in April, and recently declared she was desperately seeking financial support from her estranged husband to help cover her mounting medical and other expenses, as she prepares to become a first-time mother this summer
She has reportedly asked for $3,500 (£2,335) for the baby nurse after the child's birth, and $20,000 (£13,335) for strollers, cribs and other baby supplies. In legal papers lodged earlier this month, she states, "I have run out of money... My survival is based on (Nas') will at this time. If he does not want to pay for an expense, it does not get paid."
Kelis' lawyer appeared in a New York court this week in an attempt to move the expenses hearing up by a couple of weeks, but a judge denied the request and refused to shift the original 21 July court date.
The star is due to give birth to a boy in late July - and the unborn baby is already at the centre of a child support and custody battle between the former couple, with Nas urging the court to deny Kelis' request for spousal support and legal costs.
The child will be Nas' second - the I Can hitmaker also has a teenage daughter from a previous relationship.
