THAT Fateful Appearance...
Kanye West has expressed his gratitude to MTV network bosses for allowing him to debut his new Power promo on the U.S. cable channel after his bad behaviour at last year's Video Music Awards.
The Stronger star hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons at the September 2009 event, when he stormed the stage to protest Taylor Swift's win for Best Female Video, insisting the prize belonged to Beyonce for her smash hit Single Ladies (Put A Ring on It).
He kept a low profile in the months following the incident but West has recently stepped back into the spotlight to promote the release of his upcoming album. The video for West's new single, Power, is due to make its world premiere on MTV on Thursday after hit reality show Jersey Shore, and he is grateful to TV executives for not banning him from the network altogether as a result of his VMAs interruption.
In a post on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "Thank you MTV... for putting POWER right after your #1 show. IFEELTHELOVE!... and thanks for the 2nd I mean 3rd ok 4th chance (sic)!!!"
And West insists fans will not be disappointed with his first new offering of the year. He says, "It's not a video... it's a painting."
West's stage invasion at the VMAs was not the first time he's pulled off such a stunt - he rushed the stage at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards when he lost out on the Best Video honour to electro rockers Justice vs. Simian.
