In today’s Daily Rap, NAS Faces a DUI charge, Diddy falls victim to an internet hacker and 50 Cent decides to quit the underground scene.
NAS Faces DUI Charge
NAS is facing charges of driving under the influence (DUI) after cops allegedly caught him high behind the wheel in September.
The I Can star, real name Nasir Jones, was pulled over by traffic police in Henry County, Georgia on 10 September. The officers noticed the smell of "raw marijuana" coming from his car as they started questioning him.
According to a police report, obtained by TMZ.com, Nas confessed to smoking the drug at a pal's home minutes before he was flagged down by police. In the report, the arresting officer alleges Nas had "eyelid tremors in both eyes and body tremors", adding, "Mr. Jones had a green tongue with raised taste buds and his pulse was raised to 116 beats per minute."
Nas was booked for DUI and authorities are currently preparing to file a case against him. The news of Nas' arrest broke on the same day the rapper was due to appear in a Los Angeles court for the latest hearing in his messy divorce battle with estranged wife Kelis.
The couple, who split in April, has been fighting over a financial and custody settlement, and Nas' recent run-in with the law could prove detrimental to his case as he seeks joint custody of their four-month-old son Knight.
The hip-hop star is also bidding to prevent the Milkshake singer from receiving spousal support payments after he was ordered to pay $55,000 (£34,375)-a-week in both spousal and child support to his ex back in July.
Nas argues he should only have to provide for his newborn son. (MT/WNWCZM/)
Diddy Falls Victim To Twitter Hacker
Rap mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs found himself targeted by internet hackers in the early hours of Thursday when a prankster broke into his Twitter.com account.
The star is a big fan of the social networking site and keeps fans updated on his thoughts and whereabouts throughout the day, but fans were stunned to read a tweet from Combs apparently advertising a cell phone store in downtown Manhattan, New York, when he was partying in Atlanta, Georgia. The post read: "Go cop your new phone from Verizon Wireless... in Tribeca."
Combs noticed the bogus post minutes later and alerted his followers to the web attack. He responded: "Don't go cop no new phone from nowhere (sic) in Tribeca... Someone tried to break in(to) my Twitter.. lol (laugh out loud)."
The rapper isn't the only celebrity to be targeted by online hackers - Britney Spears became a victim of an internet hoax last month when her Twitter.com page appeared to declare her dedication to Satanism.
50 Cent Quitting Underground Scene
Rap superstar 50 Cent is retiring from the underground music scene which made him famous - he's vowed his next mixtape will be his last.
The In Da Club hitmaker, real name Curtis Jackson, built up a strong fan following early on in his career by releasing compilations on the underground hip-hop scene, including his unofficial album Power of the Dollar in 2000.
50 Cent continued to release mixtapes after the critical and commercial success of his major label debut Get Rich or Die Tryin' in 2003, but he will record no more after his next disc hits the streets.
He admits he's deliberately delayed putting out his final mixtape so fans can appreciate his new album Before I Self Destruct before they start comparing the tracks to his more "aggressive" underground recordings.
The hip-hop star tells Vibe magazine, "Portions of my next mixtape was (sic) already recorded before the release of Before I Self Destruct but I didn't wanna release it so close to the actual album...
"I felt that my core (fan base) that really enjoys the aggressive content may enjoy the mixtape and try to compare it (to the album). I know hands down the album is better but I just didn't wanna release it at that point. After that, I won't offer any mixtape material."
