Jay Z Calling on Old Friends?
After his departure from Def Jam last week, rumours are spreading faster than wild fire about just what Jay Z’s next move will be.
It has been hinted that the Marcy Projects rapper is looking to reunite with two guys who have been supporters of his for a very long time; Lyor Cohen and Kevin Liles who he worked with while under the Def Jam umbrella. The initial report hints that the reason for the reunion between the three is down to the emergence of the Carter Music Group.
However various reports are hinting that Jay Z, who is working hard on his Blueprint 3 project, is close to linking with another long time friend and avid supporter, Rick Rubin, over at Sony. Linking his Roc Nation with Sony would also see the rapper on the same label as his wife, Beyonce Knowles.
Russell Simmons Speaks out
Super Mogul Russell Simmons has spoken out about the upholding of Proposition 8 by the state of California who ruled that same sex marriages should not be advocated in the state earlier this week.
Simmons a keen philanthropist and activist said on his blog “In my heart, I know that marriage equality for every human being isn't a question of if, but only a matter of when. I ask those who feel that giving freedom to others somehow binds you, to please take a good look at what you are standing behind.
“It is only through opening your hearts will you be able to see that by promoting freedom for all, you are unchaining yourself. I guess I'm an optimist. I have faith in people and our government ultimately to do the right thing. And to my brothers and sisters in California, I'm there with you every step of the way until that day comes...”
California was one of the first US states to allow same sex marriages, but the move was revoked last year. Simmons joins various other celebs in the opposition of the the law, such as George Clooney, infamous blogger Perez Hilton and TV presenter Kathy Griffin. Other states which allow same sex marriages now include Maine, Iowa, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
