Fresh from topping charts worldwide with the # 1 smash hit single, ‘Right Round’, Flo Rida will arrive on UK soil in July to play a string of live dates.
The Shepherds Bush Empire in London, Cambridge Corn, Manchester Apollo and Glasgow Academy will host hip-hop’s golden boy to deliver shows jam-packed with hits from the incredible Top 5 album R.O.O.T.S. and his previous UK Silver Certified – MAIL ON SUNDAY. He also releases his brand new single, ‘Sugar’ which features the vocal talents of New York’s freshest R‘n’B singer Wynter Gordon on May 25th.
Flo Rida’s career has risen with death-defying momentum since the release of ‘Low’ taken from the debut Atlantic Records album, MAIL ON SUNDAY last year. It has seen him win a formidable collection of accolades - including two Grammy nominations for the 4x RIAA platinum-certified ‘Low’, a Peoples Choice Award for ‘Favourite Hip Hop Song’, and an MTV Africa Music Award for MTV Base Request for having the year’s most requested video on the continent.
His recent hit ‘Right Round’, has racked up a massive 200K UK sales, and broken US records by becoming the fastest million-selling digital track in history – clocking in at 2 million and counting. It borrows from the Eiffel 65 hit ‘Blue Da Ba Dee’. His ear for a criminally danceable sample is legendary and also apparent on the forthcoming new single - ‘Sugar’, which looks set to maintain Flo’s impressive record for smash hit singles. The track is enjoying fantastic radio support from Galaxy Network, Choice FM and Radio 1 to name a few.
Not that the road to super-stardom has been an easy one for Flo. He got his first break at 18 when touring with as the hype man for Fresh Kid Ice of 2 Live Crew, and his MC skills caught the attention of DeVante Swing - formerly of the famed R&B group Jodeci.
Swing flew the young rapper out to LA, where Flo ended up staying for three years, struggling to make his mark. “I was literally on the streets, at times promoting myself by myself,” he says. In early 2006, hesitant to leave L.A until he had successfully landed a record deal, he returned to Miami.
Continuing his grind, working hard to self promote and with the help of CEO of Poe Entertainment’s E-Class, he signed first to Poe Entertainment and then to Atlantic Records. “That was the greatest moment of my life,” Flo Rida recalls. “I had been working so hard for so long. I had jobs in construction, I worked in warehouses, you name it. But those were all the sacrifices I made by putting my money towards my music, and it finally paid off”.
