DMX

Rapper DMX is turning to religion again in a bid to put his criminal past behind him - he has plans to become a Christian TV preacher.

The star, real name Earl Simmons, walked free from the Maricopa County Jail in Arizona on Wednesday after serving time on charges of drug possession, animal cruelty and theft, stemming from various arrests in 2008.

He was originally only due to serve 90 days behind bars, but his stay was extended after he allegedly assaulted a corrections officer during his incarceration, and now, the star has vowed to to turn his life around - and is using his faith and the small screen to try and help those in a similar position.

He says, "I'm gonna start a TV show called Pain and Perseverance, it's about how I can reach people that the average person can't reach because I'm grounded. I'm going to give my first sermon in the church. That's going to be incredible for me and hopefully the congregation of that church."

It's not the first time DMX has turned to religion to fix his problems - in 2003, he turned his back on rap and pursued a preaching career. He briefly semi-retired to study the Bible.
