DMX has been accused of failing to return the $6,000 (£3,750) advance he was given to take part in an upcoming celebrity martial arts fight after pulling out of the event last month.

The troubled hip-hop star was set to step into the ring with actor Eric Martinez in an Alabama Pride MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) bout later this month, but cancelled his appearance claiming the fight would put his safety at risk.

Organisers at Thunder Productions alleged DMX quit after they refused to fix the fight in his favour and they subsequently filed a $1 million (£625,000) lawsuit against the rapper for breach of contract.

Promoters now allege DMX has kept hold of the cash advance he was given to take part in the fight - and in legal papers filed in Birmingham, Alabama, they've branded his management team, Built For War, a "sham company without capital, assets, stick or stock holders", reports AllHipHop.com.

The case has yet to go before a judge and rapper-turned-reality star Coolio has been announced as DMX's replacement in the 12 December bout.
