‘Crazy’ is the sultry debut single from 22 year old Polyna, which exclusively premiered on MOBO.Com this week. This comes after the track impressively going in at number 21 on the Urban Club Chart!
Lyrically, the self-penned track explores an obsessive relationship, set to quintessential throwback R & B sounds and tinged with classic violin strings. It’s a juxtaposition that makes ‘Crazy’ sound instantly timeless and substantial, quite the contrast in a world of throwaway pop ditties.
The track is anchored by Polyna’s gravelly powerhouse vocals, which far exceeds her petite 5’2" frame.
Hailing from the wide-open icy plains of Siberia, Polyna was passionate about music from an early age. Despite being 1000s of miles from the musical and cultural centers of the west she mainlined musical trends and styles from afar, - always yearning to catapult herself out of her secluded environment.
At the age of 16, whilst on a mind-altering vacation to the vibrant Russian capital of Moscow, she stumbled into an unplanned and impromptu theater audition.
As a teenager bewitched and intrigued by performance art and having not even finished college, and on the strength of just one song -the director of the University, who also happened to be the Director of the National State theatre, admitted Polyna on the spot.
Fast forward several years, extensive travel and exposure to eclectic underground music, Polyna is here to make her distinct imprint on the music world.
‘Crazy’ also comes with a remix from UK garage aficionada- Sunship. The promo video for the track plays out like the opening titles of a Bond Movie, with steely graphics and atmospheric shots of Siberia projected onto Polyna's body. It was produced by the team behind the recent Sweeney feature film.
