Mercedes

Mercedes

Mercedes, the multi-talented rapper/singer/songwriter, drops her brand new track 'A Little Too Much', after a recent signing from Warner Music Publishing in the US by Blue Hamilton (Katy Perry).

Her new music video, directed by Mark (Stonefire) Stenild, was inspired by a trip to the movies, paying homage to Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, A Trip to the Moon (George Méliéd), and horror films The Ring, and Cabinet by Dr Caligari.

Mercedes' first single 'Shock Absorber' was released in 2011 and received support from Radio 1, Kiss, and Capital FM. She's now splitting her time between home in London's Camden and LA, where she's working on her debut album alongside a handful of exciting producers including Tim Powell (Girls Aloud, Sugababes), Kill the Noise (Yelawolf, Skrillex) and Si Hulbert (Ed Sheeran, Ceelo Green).

She's previously recorded with Rodney 'Darkchild' Jenkins (Destiny's Child, Jennifer Lopez), one track in particular entitled 'Superstar' was co-written with Lady Gaga.

Raised in Copenhagen, and of South American and Jamaican descent, Mercedes was an entertainer from an early age.

In her teens she formed a dance group with 3 other friends and, inspired by Salt-NPepa and James Brown, the group entered numerous competitions. She has since toured and performed on stage across Europe with artists such as Will.i.am, Nicole Scherzinger and Snoop Dogg.

She cites classic hip-hop as a key influence on her music, having been introduced to A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy and Beastie Boys when she was a youngster.

Her party-anthem influences stem from her love of flamboyant artists with personality such as Grace Jones, Bjork, Neneh Cherry and David Bowie, which has led her to develop her own distinctly urban-influenced sound, combined with original electronic rhythms.

With a love (and large collection) of over-sized fashion bows, the striking former model's style (signed to Copenhagen’s largest agency - Unique Models) combines her dancing flair with Camden charm.

'A Little Too Much' is released via Technopolis on 1 July 2012
