José González will release the first single from his highly anticipated sophomore album In Our Nature and is set to dominate the airwaves once more with album highlight Down The Line. The song has an overwhelming urgency with its unrelenting guitar strokes and foreboding yet universal lyrics making the same mistake twice I see darkness down the line. A brave move to release such a socially engaged song as the first single, however González pulls this move off with aplomb and a hook that filters straight to the head and heart and limbs. José González became a household name across the world with the help of 250,000 coloured bouncing balls and a Sony Bravia television commercial featuring his spare and moving version of The Knifes song, Heartbeats. With sales of over 400,000 in the UK alone, Veneer was in the Top 40 for six months and was one of only two independent albums certified platinum in the UK in 2006 (the other was Arctic Monkeys debut). The video for Down The Line comes from long time collaborator of The Knife, Andreas Nilsson. Based on the cartoon by Jim Woodring, Frank, the character Manhog will be brought to life in what promises to be a surreal and abstract piece of work involving hallucinations, psychedelic imagery and one confused José González!
Following the release of his album on September 24, José will perform a string of UK dates in October.
These will be the first shows since his UK festival appearances last summer and promise to be exceptional due to the relatively intimate venues chosen for the tour. Unmissable.
