Singer-songwriter Joel Baker introduces himself with this outstanding refix of the fan favourite from Kendrick Lamar 'Bxtch, Don’t Kill My Vibe’.
Working with North London producers ‘The Confectionary’, Joel has taken a well-loved, hip hop song and made it his own. The result being a beautifully haunting guitar track with Joel’s unique vocals making you hear the original in a whole new way.
With a love for all music and an eclectic taste since the days his Dad introduced him to Bob Dylan through to his teen discovery of Wu-Tang Clan, the sounds that Joel listens to, covers and creates are his passion and were never geared towards a career in music, until he moved to London.
Nottingham raised, 22 year old, Joel was always more focused on the academic side of things, studying international relations at University and cramming rather than partying.
When Joel wasn’t swotting up, he would be playing the guitar, piano or performing live, but always as a guitarist never the lead vocal and always as a hobby, never a career move.
Whilst in London on a work placement, Joel was invited to the studio by ‘The Confectionary’ production duo and it was then confirmed that not only did he have the musical ability to take this pastime further, he also had the distinctive vocals to do this on his own.
Taking his music seriously for the first time in his life, the last year has been a whirlwind of discovery for Joel as he makes his infatuation a priority. Writing and recording almost every day for the past 12 months, Joel is ready to make his presence known in 2013.
Showing his true love for all kinds of music Joel wanted to share an EP of cover tracks, which will be released on January 7th and available for free download.
Don’t get too comfortable with the more familiar tunes though, Joel will be announcing details of his own debut release when he drops the free EP.
