After a brilliant run of summer performances, headlines dates and festivals - Gym Class Heroes return with their single, The Queen & I set for release digitally on October 22nd and physically on October 29th through Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen. It follows the phenomenal success of Cupids Chokehold(Breakfast In America) which stayed in the UK Top 10 for more than 8 weeks as well as the most recent Top 10 smash hit Clothes Off (which still resides in the UK Top 20 singles chart). Its a personal song, says frontman Travis McCoy, about girls who fancy alcoholic beverages, girls who like to have too much of a good time. I have weird underlying issues with females and alcohol. This song is kind of like closure, though youd never get that vibe listening to the song. Its fun to do things like that, make music thats fun with a really poppy vibe, but when you listen to the lyrics, its like, Holy shit, that dude just said If youre not paying attention, you think its just another radio ditty that sticks in your head, but then when you really listen you see its a whole lot more.Gym Class Heroes are having a brilliant year doing what they love most. Continuing in the tradition of kicking out genre-busting jams that seamlessly meld rap, rock, R&B, and anything else that happens to strike the musically voracious outfits fancy.
Breaking musical boundaries and changing perceptions of what hip-hop or indie or rock can be, with Gym Class Heroes, what you see isnt always what you get.
Though the overall feel of their album As Cruel As School Children is bright and breezy, McCoys personal, playful lyrics can often be peeled back to reveal hidden layers of emotion and introspection, notably on songs such as this forthcoming single, The Queen and I.
Gym Class Heroes have spent much of the last two years doing what they do best playing live. They have headlined sold out dates, and toured the rock world with acts like Fall Out Boy and the Warped tour, as well as taking a firm stance in the indie hip hop circuit, constantly out there bringing their unique hip-hop vision to new fans.
