You will know the name and that voice ... Deniece Pearson, early in 2012 stepped back onto prime-time BBC1 after 17 years to enter the TV talent show The Voice and was mentored by Sir Tom Jones.
11 million television viewers (at its peak) saw Deniece perform, she might not have won, but gained a brand new and wider audience of fans; a new management and record deal.
Deniece is back on top form with her debut solo single/album, that will establish her as a genuine UK R&B powerhouse. ‘Close To Nowhere’ is the irresistible first single to be released 25 February 2013 on Baronet Records.
This is the first track to be lifted from her solo album, released in Autumn 2013. Deniece has been working on this record over the past five years, via song writing retreats in Switzerland (alongside, in one case, a certain Jessie J), which features an intensely intimate collection of songs - ‘She’s Not Anyone’ and ‘Here I Am’ - that rake over the coals of relationships gone sour, her father's recent death, and her own personal growth.
"For many years now, I've simply been following the journey life takes you on," Deniece reflects. "And whatever I've gone through has inspired my song writing greatly. These songs are from the heart. In many ways, my new music is the soundtrack of my life."
Deniece Pearson has lost none of the drive that made her a popstar at 15 with sibling group Five Star. With their dynamic sound and fabulous dance routines they rocked the British and US Pop Charts in the 80’s - Deniece was the lead singer and they were dubbed Britain’s answer to Jackson Five and sold over 10 million albums worldwide.
Deniece still wants hit singles, sell-out tours. But then all singers invariably do. What marks her out is that she has lost none of that initial talent, but has rather improved upon it, now a singer, a songwriter, an artist.
The coming 12 months will prove all this, and more.
