The worldâs biggest girl group are back! Theyâre all grown up and ready to send temperatures soaring with their new single and album.
The first single âWhen I Grow Upâ is a tongue in cheek look at our fame-obsessed culture. With a seriously fierce club beat courtesy of Rodney Jerkins, the Dolls show why theyâre leaders of the pack. The single has already shot into the top ten of the US Billboard Hot 100.
Be careful what you wish for 'cause you just might get it
The new album, âDoll Dominationâ is the follow up to the 7 million selling PCD and will be released on September 15th. The debut album produced an incredible five top ten singles in the UK .. âDonât Chaâ, âStickwituâ, âBeepâ, âButtonsâ and âWait A Minuteâ. For the new album Pussycat Dolls have been working with an all-star cast of producers. As well as Rodney Jerkins, they have teamed up with Sean Garrett, Polow Da Don, Timbaland and Cee-Lo Green. Says Nicole; "There are songs on the album that people wouldnât expect from PCD .. some smooth, slow jams, some alternative jams. Weâre really coming ferocious with the music this time out."
Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton and Kimberly Wyatt made their spectacular return to the live stage last month at the MTV Movie awards in LA performing new song âWhen I Grow Up.â They were one of only two groups to perform at the show .. the other was Coldplay.
Be careful what you wish for 'cause you just might get it, this cautionary message courtesy of the Pussycat Dolls, whose comeback single - When I Grow Up - hints at the darker side of global fame.
Lead singer Nicole Scherzinger said of the song it is meant to be playful, but with a twist side of that, it's a little warning.
On the band's second album Doll Domination she prophesises that when people see the Dolls they go wow, I want to do that. I want to be famous, I want to see the world, I want nice cars, I want groupies. But it's not an easy ride on the road to fame glamorous its not!
The Pussycat Dolls came to prominence in 2005 with a couple of hits including the Cee-Lo Green-penned Don'tcha, which went straight to number one on both sides of the Atlantic followed closely by "don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me?"
Add all these to another four more top 10 hits, a multi-platinum album, a TV show and tours with Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas and Christina Aguilera, all confirmed the Dolls had made the big time. Scherzinger's soft Kentucky drawl disguises the girls drive and sheer hard work ethics, there is no doubting she is the force behind the success.
Studio time with producer Timbaland resulted in six songs in as many days. for the new album Doll Domination, is due out in September, as the Dolls ditch the cover versions and show tunes which showcase the band's cabaret beginnings on their debut.
That album title is beginning to seem less like a clever piece of music and more like a statement of intent.
When I Grow Up is released in the UK on 8 September. Doll Domination follows a week later.
