Nominee for the 2013 BRITs Critics’ Choice Award and included in the coveted BBC Sound of 2013 longlist, Laura Mvula announces the release of her highly anticipated debut album, ‘Sing To the Moon’ on 4th March 2013 through RCA Victor (Sony).
Described as 'The voice of 2013' by The Evening Standard, the classically trained, singer-songwriter’s music fuses orchestral soul with velvety harmonies and emotional vocals giving nods to Nina Simone, George Gershwin and Björk amongst others.
A graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition, the 26-year-old is a unique collision of her Caribbean background and formal music.
There’s something special about this young lady from Birmingham. Laura’s debut single ‘She‘, produced by Steve Brown (Rumer) and mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Adele), appeared out of nowhere almost overnight to huge praise from the cream of UK music critics - a track so lyrically poetic that it took on a life of it’s own.
Laura started writing songs on her laptop while working as a supply teacher in a Birmingham secondary school. Now, with some incredible live performances and a praised EP (‘She’ released 18th November) under her belt, 2013 looks set to be an incredible year for her.
