24-year old Kate Walsh may now be the proud owner of an iPod (courtesy of Apple), but after capturing the No.1 slot on iTunes UK Hot 100 albums recently with ‘Tim’s House’, it’s hardly surprising she was offered the freebie. With her No.1 here and Top 10 iTunes across Europe then a No.1 on the US iTunes Folk Chart, Kate quickly became the talk of the global music industry, leapfrogging over established artists such as Kaiser Chiefs, Arcade Fire and Amy Winehouse through the massive word-of-mouth digital buzz.Taking in the subsequent rush of music industry interest, Kate decided the best move was to license her album through Mercury Records. She now plans to release, ‘Your Song’ on CD on Monday 24th September backed with exclusive new track, ‘Here I Go Again.’. Her album, ‘Tim’s House,’ is available now as a download and also gets a physical release on Monday 24th September..The inspired singer/songwriter has carved out a unique niche with web listeners and portable music fans around the globe. Her direct but sweetly-delivered songs has resulted in her being one of the most talked about new artists in the business, thanks to the tremendous fan response generated by her album in the myspace/ipod d-i-y music movement.
A classically trained pianist and accomplished guitarist, she has also been drawing comparisons to female songwriting giants such as Joni Mitchell.
It is the kind of instantaneous emotional connection not even dreamed possible five years ago.
And in one of those strange quirks of fate, Kate’s track ‘Your Song’ was recently featured in the US spin-off to Grey’s Anatomy – Private Practice – featuring none other than her namesake and female lead of the show, American actress Kate Walsh.
