Jack Beats are set to release Somebody To Love, the second in their series of mini albums, on December 2nd through Columbia/Deconstruction in the UK. This release follows their Careless mini album released on September 10th.
Radio 1’s Zane Lowe called Careless ‘A turning point record’, and this second mini LP takes things to yet another level.
With the title track Somebody To Love being their most ambitious tune to date; a bitter sweet vocal by Jess Mills welded to a retro rave melody brought bang up to date with an anthemic groove that exemplifies all that is good about bass music right now.
About To Get Fresh has been a crowd favourite across the summer, showcasing the vocal stylings of Chiddy Bang and OV (Foreign Beggars) over a militaristic moombahton beat. Storm will surprise a few people and will surely establish Jack Beats as two of the best producers in the UK right now, whilst the other two tracks are simply outstanding club tackle.
The duo, made up of Niall Dailly (DJ Plus One of Scratch Perverts) and Ben Geffin (The Mixologists), describe the release of their mini albums as a 'summing up' of everything they’ve experienced to this point. "They’re a showcase of everything that we’ve got going on," says Niall.
"We’ve really got the bit between our teeth here. We’re always trying to be original and do something different. That’s the hip hop side of us; because in that culture, if you weren’t being original, if you were biting other people’s ideas, you’d be out of a job."
The pair’s earliest releases drove a huge demand for their out of control DJ sets, and ever since 2008 the boys have been touring the States with artists like A-Trak and Diplo.
Their American status has led them to a deal with Skrillex’ label OWSLA to release the mini albums in the States. So far this year, Jack Beats have played their biggest festivals to date (T in the Park, V Festival, Electric Zoo), topped the Beatport sales chart, and now they are heading off to play the massive Parklife tour in Australia, prior to their UK headline tour in October.
