Toronto art rock band The Darcys have played with the likes of Deerhoof, Hollerado, Tennis and more throughout 2011 leading up to the release of their debut self-titled album last month on Arts & Crafts.
An album that contains multilayered songs rich with complex rhythms, guitars set at chime, hypnotic keyboards, all behind raw soaring vocals. Sounds from lead vocalist Jason Couse that suggest styles of Radiohead yet remain unique to themselves.
Produced by Murray Lightburn of The Dears, ‘The Darcys’ is the first in a trio of planned full-length records. Rather imaginatively, the album is available as a free download off the band's website with fans new and old being encouraged to purchase the recording on limited edition vinyl.
Most recently, The Darcys have released their first video from their debut album for ‘Don’t Bleed Me’, directed by award winning FX specialist and director Mike Portoghese, The promo clip depicts an End Of Days-like exodus from Earth as it unfolds in the band’s hometown of Toronto, complete with the destruction of the city’s internationally recognized landmark, the CN Tower.
