The Go-Go’s have dismissed plans to replace retiring singer Belinda Carlisle - because the girl group are too old to work with a new frontwoman.
Some bandmates are still hoping to end the band's 32-year career in style with a proper farewell tour after initial dates this summer were scrapped when guitarist Jane Wiedlin pulled out due to knee surgery - but that decision rests with Carlisle.
Bassist Kathy Valentine tells Spinner.com, "I'm hoping we can reschedule so that we can do a proper victory lap (but) it's kind of beyond my control and it's gonna be off in the future if it happens. The whole reason that it was a farewell tour in the first place (was) because Belinda wanted to retire.
"We felt like we would rather go out on top and intact. If we were 25 or 30 and she wanted to retire, then it would make sense to go (and) find a new singer and make our new way. But we're all over 50. None of us saw really the point of getting a new singer (sic)."
Meanwhile, Valentine reveals she and her bandmates are in talks to compose and record a Christmas single.
