Sir Cliff Richard

Sir Cliff Richard

Sir Cliff Richard refuses to retire with The Shadows for good, insisting he and his bandmates will most likely share the stage again in the future.

The Living Doll star reunited with his backing band earlier this year for a major arena tour to mark their 50th anniversary, announcing the shows would be their last, but he's not ruling out performing with the band for special events in the coming years.

He explains, "What we've been saying is it's probably the last tour that we'll ever do like this. (Guitarist) Hank (Marvin) once said there's no reason why we can't get together (again) but whether we'll ever do a tour of this length (is doubtful). Don't forget, we have still got to get to the middle of March! But let's face it, if there was a charity function or a festival somewhere and they thought we might be handy, well... if the money was right we would do it!"

Richard enjoyed a string of U.K. chart-topping hits in the 1950s and '60s with his backing band, led by Marvin, but split from The Shadows in 1968 to pursue a solo career.

The stars are now preparing to fly to Australia and New Zealand, before concluding their reunion tour in South Africa in March.
