Following Richard Hawley’s seventh studio album, ‘Standing At The Sky’s Edge’, becoming his highest charting album to date - charting at number 3 - Parlophone Records are pleased to announce the release of the second single from the album, ‘Down In The Woods’.
‘Down In The Woods’ was written in reaction to one of the Coalition government’s first pieces of proposed legislation; the attempt to sell-off our ancient woodlands. Inspiring righteous anger in Hawley, he penned a lyric which takes the listener on a cosmic trip into a deep, dark wood, imploring them to make the most of it while there’s still time.
The result is a song that’s the album’s most cathartically raw track, built around the simplest of blues riffs, delivered with a raw abandon that suggests countless turntable miles notched up listening to the MC5 and The Stooges. It surely looks set to be an instant live favourite and another vindication of Hawley’s decision to replace the strings of yore with guitars.
‘Down In The Woods’ will be available as a one-track digital download and, as the second release through the Richard Hawley Singles Club (also available from all good music retailers), on limited edition 10" vinyl b/w brand new track ‘Kindly Rain’ (also available as a download).
Richard Hawley will play a sell-out show at London HMV Forum on 8th June, followed by appearances at No Direction Home Festival on Sunday 10th June and Latitude Festival on Saturday 14th July. Following the recent announcement of his first ever show at Brixton Academy on October 3rd, full details of his UK autumn tour have been announced:
