Pop rock outfit Lotus Mason returns with 2nd single ‘Rust and Roll’ from their forthcoming album via Glowb Records on the 30th May 2011
Lotus Mason follow up their debut single with ‘Rust and Roll,’ an ethereal-laden, modern pop rock gem laced with subtle electronics featuring elements of Bowie, Suede and Brandon Flowers in equal measures demonstrating a crossover of the best 80s, 90s and current influences shaping songwriter Blair Jollands and his band at the moment. The single, already released in Australiasia, is receiving critical acclaim and playlisting on radio including in Jollands’ home land of New Zealand.
The single was not one that was the easiest to record with guitarist Rhys John Hughes encountering a bizarre health issue in which he faced his ribcage eventually collapsing and puncturing his lungs within days. After numerous procedures, Hughes had metal rods inserted throughout his body in order to survive and recording finished. Now with metal detectors getting set off at airports worldwide and a new single under their arm, the band are ready to ‘Rust and Roll’.
Lotus Mason is the brainchild of songwriter Jollands who was the leader
of critically-accliamed acts El Hula (signed to Boy George’s label) & alt-country outfit
The Thin Men. Vocally he has been compared to Rufus Wainwright married to Bowie or as according to Elsewhere.co.nz state he was ‘Once described as the illegitimate son of Scott Walker and Jim Morrison with a bit of Desi Amez and a shot of tequila.’
